Due to destruction of community service delivery, the organization through various programs seeks to achieve improved quality of life for marginalized groups and vulnerable households through access to basic services (such as clean water, sanitation and hygiene. The Somali Community Rescue Organization aims to enhance community access to potable water systems/points, establishing and promoting an improved hygiene and environmental sanitation practices through the following strategic interventions.
The strategic Interventions in the Water, Sanitation and hygiene Programs
- Rehabilitation of existing water systems/points and/or construct new ones where deemed necessary
- Establishment of sustainable management practices through community involvement in management
- Training the local water committees in proper water use, storage and conservation methods
- Distribute water tanks for water harvesting and storage to poor households
- Construct boreholes and water points to ensure constant water supply
- Deliver clean water to families for daily consumption and for animals to minimize animal loses that have contributed to increased poverty in the area.
- Increase in the participation of women in the management and maintenance of water and sanitation interventions, and also in the promotion of improved hygiene and environmental sanitation practices.
- Construct Toilets in specific location to help in waste management that may contribute to contamination of water during the rainy season.
- Train in proper irrigation methods for increased crop and animal production.
